Helene Goldnadel is the owner of International Creative Artists the post secondary acting school located in Irvine, CA, was a SAG (Screen, the child actor, the child star model, acting for television, acting in television commercials, acting for film, acting for soap operas, acting for sitcoms, episodic dramas etc... All of the above pertains to very specific on camera acting skills, but only if you are 4 years old and up, she says.
Her graduates have booked jobs in the film/TV industry within the past month and a half such as: Connor G. 2 national Kodak commercials and a print job. Wyatt Y. a co-star appearance on Judging Amy etc… Patrick D.R. a promo with Comedy Central's Reno 911 Magdalena Zielinska a guest star appearance with Two and a half men and a guest star on Reno 911 Elijah T. a Baby Einstein commercial Jolene C. a Wachovia National commercial Jackie H. a Disney national commercial Gunner Washington. A Pizza Hut National Commercial. The industry wants babies! Not as much as it does children, pre-teens, teen-agers. But yes, somebody has to ride the Michelin tire, eat the baby food and crawl by a box of Pampers. Your baby does not have to be a little Gerber thing. Commercial looking children sometimes are more successful than very angel-like fashiony little ones. Baby managers have somewhat taken over baby modeling, and at International Creative Artists we put the babies through the same exact placement program as we do the older kids whom we can train. Because the work is more sporadic for Babies, Hollywood agents choose to sign them up letting parents know that the work will not be as substantial as if the child were 5-6 years old and up. Four year old child actors already start being in much greater demand. Acting lessons are not at all a possibility for the baby actor. Training for an actor 3 and a half / 4 years old and up is paramount. Acting for television, acting in television commercials, acting for film, acting for soap operas, acting for sitcoms, episodic dramas etc... All of the above pertains to very specific on camera acting skills. Acting lessons pertain to many different curriculums. An acting class can be for monologues, cold readings and improvisation. All our courses are created for the purpose of generating the most successful outcome when our graduates participate in our placement program. You can rest assured that acting in television commercials or day time TV is not an easy task. A soap opera star is a very skilled actor. Those are acting lessons that a baby model/actor does not need. A little photo shoot course is provided by International Creative Artists however, so that a baby remembers they shot in front of a photographer who is not dad and is allowed to go through such process. When the baby does a print job, he/she remembers that process and is less apprehensive. The use of professional photography has been a question mark on a lot of minds for babies. I asked the top baby managers including the one that obtained a Baby Einstein commercial for our little Elijah T. and a print job attached to it, if they could function with snap shots. Alex's answer (who is a top baby manager in Los Angeles and has a lot of tiny "child star models") said that he loves the color head shots, 8X10 industry standard photo quality color shots that the babies have obtained trough our photo shoot course program. He added: "That's what the casting directors want to see!" Some small managers may be into using snap shots, but know that they do not catch the casting directors attention as much as the 8X10 color quality head shots. Therefore sporadic work becomes non-existent. The good news is that babies make the same money as older kids or adults do. It's all Screen Actors Guild negotiated rates. Acting for soap opera for instance for babies, pertains to the "Mom" on the soap holding the baby in a specific scene while trying to figure out if the log lost zillionaire Grandfather came through in his will… Or you know whatever the exciting story might be about! You will be surprised to find out the amount of little graduates that have a SAG (The Screen Actor's Guild) or /and an AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) card! Talent agents and baby manager alike will tell you that twins are really huge in the industry. The Law does not allow the child actor to work a full schedule; hence the popular use of twins for the same character. The fact is Baby actors make money; there was the huge search for the Quizno baby! A commercial can make a child 3 months old and up anywhere between $10,000 and $200,000. On this note: Live well and prosper my little friends! |
